  1. When is the deadline for the AEJA 2017 applications?
    The AEJA 2017 will open for applications on 17 March 2017 and close on 12 January 2018.
  2. What is the application fee for the AEJA 2017?
    No application fee is required for the AEJA 2017.
  3. How do I apply for the awards?
    Once the application window is open, simply go to www.sec.org.sg/aeja and click on the “Get Started Now!” button. Create an account by filling in the form with your email address, password and contact details. You will then log in with your email address and password.
  4. May I request assistance in filling up my application?

  5. Will I know the status of my application?
    Once you have completed your submissions using the online system, a pop up notification will appear. Winners will be notified prior to the awards ceremony in March 2018
  6. Is there a timeframe during which all submitted articles must have been written?
    All articles must have been written and/or published between 1 July 2016 – 31 December 2017.
  7. My article was published online, on a news site – which category does it qualify for?
    If the news site is simply the online presence of a registered media organisation (e.g. Straits Times Online), your piece is eligible for the Environmental Story of the Year category or the Environmental Journalist of the Year category.
  8. Who is eligible for these awards?
    To maximise the relevance of the awards to the Asian Context, the awards are open to:
    • Citizens of any Asian Country, who write about an environmental issue taking place in Asia. The pieces submitted can focus on a specific country, or on the region in general.
    • Journalists of any nationality, who have been living and working in any Asian Country for a minimum of one calendar year before the close of the application deadline on 17 July 2017.
  9. I do not work for the organisation anymore but wrote my articles while I was still under them. Can I still submit those articles?
    Yes, you can, as long as the articles were written and/or published within the timeframe stipulated.
  10. Do my articles have to be in English?
    Your article can be in any language, but if they are not in English, the submission must be accompanied by a certified English translation of your work.
  11. My article was primarily done by me but other journalists have contributed, can I still submit it as an individual article?
    Such scenarios will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Please let us know if you are a facing a scenario like this, and we will make a decision based on the exact breakdown of work contributed by each journalist.
  12. Can I submit the same article for more than one category?
    Yes, you can submit the same article for more than one category.
  13. What mediums of journalism are eligible for the awards?
    The awards are open to all mediums of journalism – print, broadcast, radio, etc. For broadcast and radio pieces, please submit a full transcript of the piece in the online application system, and send a copy of the audio clip/video footage to the AEJA 2017 secretariat at:

  14. I am not based in Singapore. If I win, will SEC sponsor my travel to the awards ceremony on in March 2018?
    If you are an award winner, SEC will take care of your flight expenses to Singapore and back to your country of residence.
