Coca-Cola Environmental Story of the Year

All articles or broadcast pieces submitted must focus on an environmental issue of relevance to a particular Asian country or city, or the regional in general.

 IMPARTIALITY IN REPORTING THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF THE SUBJECT MATTER

Does the article or broadcast piece address the issue from an objective and impartial stance? The winning work would be free from any personal or corporate bias, and give equal importance to the negative and positive aspects of the subject matter.

OVERALL IMPACT OF AN ARTICLEOR BROADCAST PIECE, IN TERMS OF GENERATING FOLLOW-UP DISCUSSION AND/OR ITS ABILITY TO MOBILISE REAL, MEANINGFUL IMPROVEMENTS IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL SITUATION.

Did the publication of the article or broadcast piece inspire follow-on action, discussion or additional news coverage on the issue within the writers’ target audience (i.e. national population, local community, school community or online community)?

Excellence in environmental reporting by a media organisation

This category is open to media organisations in any Asian country as listed. The organisation is required to submit a total of 10 written articles or articles which were broadcast on radio or on television that showcase a consistent trend of excellence in its environmental reporting practices, OR a series of 5 articles about an unfolding environmental to showcase its ability to deliver high-quality breaking environmental news to its target audience.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP IN THE ORGANISATION’S CORPORATE PRACTICES

Does the media organisation champion the organisational values embodied in its article, in other avenues of its operation? For example, does the organisation take measures to reduce its carbon footprint, contribute to an environmental charity, or do advocacy for environmental issues through its other programming?

POTENTIAL OF COVERAGE TO MOBILISE REAL, MEANINGFUL IMPROVEMENTS IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL SITUATION

Did the publication of the articles/broadcast pieces, have a positive influence on the environmental situation? In the case of reporting on environmentally unsustainable practices, did the coverage mobilise community or corporate action to correct these practices? In the case of coverage highlighting an emerging social, political or technological development that promotes sustainability, did the article directly influence an increase in public uptake or knowledge about the trend?

  • Plain text copies of 10-13 works of outstanding environmental journalism, accompanied by a short (no more than 100 words) biographical note about the author of each work and scanned copies of each article printed in a publication owned by the media organisation.

OR:

  • Hyperlinks to broadcast video clips (can be on news organisation website or links to external servers where a downloadable file is hosted).
  • For each article/broadcast piece, a list of 5 instances in which article was cited/covered, received forum responses or mobilised positive action.
  • Report on other environmental initiatives undertaken by the organisation, including donations, volunteering initiatives and corporate partnerships. 
  • Report on cohesive coverage strategy employed by organisation during unfolding environmental events, e.g. natural disasters, climate change negotiations or regional political decisions on environmental issues. Report on composition of organisation’s environmental news repertoire, i.e. percentage breakdown of articles that are original pieces by organisations’ writers, and percentage of articles that are reproduced from global news agencies.
