According to the Singapore Tourism Board, visitor arrivals in Singapore reached 3.12 million in the first quarter of 2011. With such a large number of visitors, implementing sustainable practices in hotels can help to reduce the negative environmental impact of the industry.

This scheme aims to address the major environmental impacts of the hotel industry in the form of concise guidelines for best sustainable practices. Hotels that are able to meet the requirements will obtain the Eco-Hotel Label.
