Q1: When is the deadline for applications?
Applications are now open for the 2010 Awards. The deadline for submissions is on 25th March 2010.
No application will be accepted after this date.
Important: Applicants are welcome to send their applications at anytime during this period. It does not matter when applications are received within this time as all applications will be treated on the same basis regardless of date of submission. All applications are reviewed in detail after the application deadline. If an application is found to be incomplete, the applicant will be advised shortly after the deadline.
Q2: Do I need to send the application by mail or is it ok to send a pdf via email?
You may send us your application by mail or by email (pdf). Please make sure all related supporting documents and endorsements are also in order at the time of submission.
Q3: When will I know the outcome of my application?
You will be advised by email on the outcome a month after the application deadline. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
Q4: Is there only one winner for the awards?
Not necessarily, if we receive several outstanding applications within one category we may grant more than one award. There may be several winners for each category (MNC, Large local Businesses, Small and medium Local Businesses, Governmental organizations).
If the Judging Panel finds that a category does not contain any excellent application we will not grant any award for this particular category. If an applicant is judged not to be strong enough for an award but shows significant and outstanding achievement going towards this ideal, the Judging Panel may grant a the applicant with a merit certificate.
Q5: I applied for SEAA, do I need to send you a different application for the Innovation award?
Yes as the SEAA and the Innovation award are two different types of awards. You may which to apply for both but in this case you will need to complete both application forms. Applications will be treated separately.
Q6: May I know what your judging criterions are so I can have better chances of being selected?
Judging criterions are reflected in the different sections of the Guidance Notes above which should assist you to fill up the application. For the SEAA the main criterions for assessments are: Management commitment, environmental initiatives, originality, savings, investments, community outreach, technologies, efficiency and legal compliance.
For the SEC-Senoko Power Green Innovation Award the main criterions for assessment are: Innovation, Environmental benefits, potential for replication, effectiveness of innovation, savings. More precise criterions are confidential and only known to the judging panel.
Q7: What will I get from this award?
This is the highest environmental recognition in Singapore. The winners get publicity and recognition, media coverage, an environmental corporate video, an official trophies given out during a prestigious Gala ceremony as well as other benefits (refer to “Objectives & Benefits” page).
Q8: How much will it cost me to apply for the Innovation Award?
Application is free of charge.
Q9: May I request assistance in filling up my application?
Yes, SEC is pleased to provide guidance in completing your application. You may wish to present your application to us in person (before the application deadline) and we will be able to advise you if your application is missing any key elements.
Important: No assistance will be given after the application deadline. If an application is incomplete, SEC will request specific details that must be provided within the timeline set by the Council’s secretariat at the time of the request. Failure to do so will result in being disqualified for an incomplete application submission.
Q10 How many people will review my application? Are they qualified to do so?
Applications undergo a series of selections reviews. SEC’s secretariat assists the Judging Panel in the review of the applications. The Judging Panel consists of high university academics, government officials and industry representatives.
Overall about 15 persons from different sectors and organizations will contribute in making the final selection of the winner(s). An external and independent environmental consultant will also conduct an onsite assessment on all finalists of the Awards along with various representatives of the Judging Panel to achieve the final selection of winner(s).
Q11 Will I be reminded of the application deadline?
Yes an email is sent to all applicants about a month before the application deadline. SEC will inform you if there are any changes in the deadline. It is however your responsibility to check the deadline from our website or by calling us.
Q12 If I am not selected may I obtain details on the reasons so I can improve?
Only short listed candidates will get a feedback following site audits. Other candidates are welcome to re-apply for next year’s awards. When doing so they may like to meet with the SEAA secretariat at the Council to discuss their previous application and how they could improve. Companies who applied and were not shortlisted are expected to show significant improvements if re-applying.
Q13 My application contains some strictly confidential information’s (new technologies, innovations, company details…) am I ensured that these information’s are safe with you and will be kept secret?
All application materials are kept in strict confidence by the SEC. Any information given to us regarding your application is treated in confidentiality and will remain confidential until finalists are selected.
Once a finalist has been selected information about the initiatives and/or technology gaining the Award must be useable to promote the winning technology and/or technology the umbrella of the Singapore Green Summit and SEAA programme.
At this point in time the award winner must agree to release a varied array of information be used to effectively communicate benefits of the initiatives / technology as described in the application submitted to the Council for the respective award.
Q14 Does SEC have some preferred aspects of the environment that you prioritize for the awards (eg: climate change, water quality…)?
No, SEC treats every applicant with equity. The assessment is made on overall environmental management of the corporation (for the SEAA) and innovation and performance of the technology for the Innovation award.
