Nature, good food and loads of fun – A big thank you to SEC’s Earth Helpers
Singapore, 21 April 2012 - The Singapore Environment Council (SEC) said a big thank you to our volunteers last Saturday, at our Earth Helpers Appreciation Day.

The event was in line with Global Earth Day Initiatives for 2012, which saw over 1 billion people worldwide playing a part in protecting our environment. SEC’s theme, Go Green in our daily lives, aims to encourage individuals to make that fundamental baby step in adopting green habits on a long-term basis.
The morning began with a scenic guided walk at Hort Park, albeit the slight drizzle. Following this, we presented certificates of appreciation and t-shirts to our eleven Earth Helpers who rendered significant contributions in the form of time and effort over the past year.
Among the morning’s highlights was a heartening speech by our Guest-of-Honour, Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of Northwest District and Vice-Chairman of Singapore Environment Council.

"With your support, the SEC has managed to effectively translate environmental awareness into action. While we come up with the strategy and action plan, we ultimately rely on you to rally action towards achieving a tangible improvement in Singapore’s environmental sustainability landscape," said Dr Teo.
Dr Teo also shared about SEC’s numerous initiatives in the pipeline for SEC’s Earth Helpers. These include the SEC’s recent partnership with PUB for the ABC (Active, Beautiful, Clean) Waters learning trail, which aims to encourage the learning of water management, bioengineering techniques and heritage of major ABC Waters sites in engaging manner outside the classroom. SEC is looking to invest resources into training Earth Helpers to conduct these learning trails on our behalf.

The event was wrapped up with a terrarium-making workshop by SEC staff members, which provided our Earth Helpers the opportunity to learn how to create their own eye-catching, eco-friendly terrariums.
