About Project: Eco-Shop

The Project: Eco-Shop Label is a joint initiative between the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) and SMRT Corporation Ltd. It is a certification programme aimed at guiding and encouraging retailers to fit out their shops in an environmentally-sustainable manner, as well as to adopt eco-friendly habits and implement green practices in their daily operations.

Other than receiving recognition for their commitment in being green, retailers can also reduce their energy consumption and utility bills in the long run.

The Project: Eco-Shop Label is based on a scoring system to evaluate the environmental performance of retail shops in the areas of Environmental Management & Awareness, Purchasing & Operations, Air Quality, Energy Conservation, Waste Management, and Water Conservation.

How Do I Apply?

  1. Start by adopting green measures for your shop's fit out, incorporating green practices to daily operations, appointing a green ambassador, and conducting green promotions.
  2. Contact SEC at to indicate your interest and to complete the Eco-Shop self-audit checklist form.
  3. Send the completed form back to the representative and a preliminary internal analysis will be done.
  4. With a score of at least 65%, SEC will arrange for a site audit with an appointed audit firm.
  5. Your application results will be released to you by SEC approximately 2-3 weeks after the audit.

An application fee is charged to the shops applying for the Project: Eco-Shop Label Certification. The cost of certification is $800 (before GST).

The Project: Eco-Shop Label is valid for three (3) years. To continue using the Project: Eco-Shop Label trademark, shops will need to apply for recertification.

For recertification, shops should start the renewal process approximately 6 months before the expiry and it can be completed in time before the certification expires.
