Qualifying Criteria (Part I )
1) Standard Laundry Powder Detergent (GLS-009-03) a) Biodegradability of the detergent must be at least 90%
b) pH value of the detergent must not exceed 11.
c) The detergent must no not contain any carcinogenic, allergenic or teratogenic substances or substances that are considered hazardous to the environment.
d) Certain substances in the detergents are to be excluded or limited to amount specific as attached.

The washing machine must meet the following criteria for its full load, cold wash, normal cycle:

1.   15 liters of water per kg/wash

2.   0.22kWh for hot water cycle kg/wash *

3.   0.04kWh for cold water cycle kg/wash

4.   The airborne acoustical noise during the water extracting shall not exceed 60 dB(A) during washing and 76dB(A) during the spin cycle**

5.   Plastic Parts:

a.   Substances based on cadmium, lead, mercury or their compounds, or the following flame-retardant shall not be added to the plastic materials:

i. Polybrominated biphenlys (PBB); and

ii. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).

6.   Surface Treatment:

a.   Paints shall not contain pigments or additives based on cadmium, lead, chromium, mercury or their compounds. Metals shall not be coated with cadmium, chromium, nickel or their compounds. Please refer to Paints and Varnishes for additional requirements.

7.   Packaging requirements:

a.   Packaging materials shall not contain chlorine-based plastics
Detergents:

For items a), b), d) & washing machines Applicant needs to submit a sample for test at accredited SAC-SINGLAS (The Singapore Laboratory Accreditation Scheme) Laboratories. Application shall be accompanied by a test report.
For item c) Declaration by the Chief Executive Officer or equivalent of the manufacturer is required.

Washing Machines:

All tests must be conducted on Standard setting / mode
(i.e. non fuzzy logic , smart, quick wash or equivalent modes)
* Machines that have a hot water cycle with a built in heating system must comply with the energy usage requirements stated above of Hot Water cycles. Pleaser refer to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) IEC 60456 test standards for reference. The ambient water temperature in Singapore is between 27 - 30° C please test with a maximum heated temperature of 60° C.
