Rational:
Adoption and promotion of Ozone Friendly Refrigerant Gases (ODP) to positively influence climate change, promote energy efficiency resulting in lower emissions and promotion of eco-friendly products.

The promotion of products that use 410A as refrigerant has the duel benefits of energy efficiency while being an Ozone Friendly Refrigerant Gas (ODP). This is shown by a comparison between traditional used R-22 refrigerants and 410A when compare on equivalent tonnages the R-410A refrigerants generally show increased energy efficiency.

In addition to the above, products which use R-410A have a 30% lower failure rate when compared to conventional refrigerants thereby prolonging the lifespan of installed units and reducing frequent replacement of both product and parts.

Basic Criterion:

1. All products must solely use R-410A as refrigerant
2. Perquisites for air-conditioner that have a capacity less than or equal to 45 tones  (approximately 540,000 BTUs):
1. All products applying for the Singapore Green Label must be actively endorsed under the Energy Labelling Scheme
3. All air-conditioned that have a capacity of 46 tones (approximately 552,000 BTUs) and above can gain the Singapore Green Label endorsement without gaining prior endorsement under the Energy Labeling Scheme.
1. Subject to change depending on the developments in criterion for the Energy Labelling Scheme.
4. Surface Treatment : (Strongly Encouraged)
1. A commitment must be made by the applicant to restrict use of Paints, pigments or additives based on cadmium, lead, chromium, mercury or their compounds.
2. Metals which are coated with cadmium, chromium, nickel must have validate test results in accordance with USEPA Method 1311 to verify that these metals do not leach into the environment.
5. Information to Consumers – Manufactures Commitment (Strongly Encouraged)
1. Instruction on the return of used products, packaging and consumables by using manufacturer’s take-back service, if available. If take-back services are not available, the manufacture is requested to provide the consumer with alternate information on disposal methods reinforcing the commitment waste minimisation and responsible business to insure recyclability and reuse.

Manufactures Declaration:

1. An organisation applying for the Singapore Green Label under this category must formally declare that both the model of the product and all affiliated mechanisms used in its refrigeration process must contain refrigerant limited to R-410A.

Use of the Green Label

1. Descriptive text stating “Uses Ozone Friendly Refrigerant Gas / Energy Efficient Air-conditioner” must be printed in addition to the User Agreement Number as stipulated by the terms and conditions associated with the use of the Singapore Green Label.
