Crusade Cleaning Services
Pte Ltd (1998 winner)
Crusade Cleaning is involved in the business of carpet cleaning
services for a busy and productive Singapore. In its effort to keep
Singapore's man-made structures clean, it also has a company commitment
to keeping the nation environmentally healthy with the use of biodegradable
chemicals throughout its entire cleaning operations. As part of
that process, Crusade incorporates business practices to help reduce
energy consumption and the recovery of wastes that would otherwise
pollute the environment.
Crusade Cleaning received the SEAA on the basis
of the use of environmental friendly cleaning agents and equipment,
a reduction of overall energy consumption in the cleaning processes,
the recovery and recycling of waste and proper maintenance of equipment
to prevent air and noise pollution and water conservation achieved
through proper operational practices and preferred use of drycleaning
machines.

Changi General Hospital (1999 & 2003
winner)
As a two time winner of the Awards,
Changi General Hospital is Singapores first purpose-built,
multi-disciplinary regional hospital, providing healthcare services
to approximately 750,000 people in the eastern and northeastern
parts of Singapore. In order to successfully win the SEAA, Changi
General Hospital instilled several green practice within this grounds.
Some of these were: waste composting from water conservation (the
first hospital to use NewWater), increased energy efficiency of
their hospital building and instillations, waste minimisation methods
to control the generation of unnecessary waste in both the administration
and day to day running of the hospital, and participation in community
grass-roots education and staff enrichment programmes.

Neo Corporation (2000 winner)
As a leader in design-build construction, Neo Corporation believes
in the promotion and development of innovative concepts, delivering
to the customer the best value for money by harnessing the best
of design and construction to create a product of quality, aesthetics
and innovation on time and within budget.
Neo Corporation streamlined their design
process to implement environmentally efficient architecture, water
conservation techniques and devices into their building concepts.
In addition they initiated waste minimization techniques in construction
and implemented segregated recycling for their waste.
Eagle Services Asia Pte Ltd (2001 winner)
Eagle Services Asia (ESA) is a Pratt &
Whitney and SIA Engineering Company Joint Venture formed in June
1998. The company has some of the latest and most sophisticated
equipment and processes in Jet Engine Overhaul, Module Change, Parts
Repair and Overhaul, including Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), with
fully integrated OEM technical support.
Eagle Services Asia Pte. Ltd. won the
SEAA on the basis of the adoption of clean technologies, pollution
prevention, implementation of waste minimisation & recycling
processes, noise management, and measures taken to manage energy
& water consumption.

Alexandra Hospital (2002 winner)
Alexandra Hospital is a 400-bed general,
acute care hospital, providing a wide range of medical services
to the central-western area of Singapore.
Alexandra Hospital won the SEAA in 2002 on the
basis of its efforts in preserving and enhancing the natural environment.
It embarked on many initiatives such as: recycling scheme, waste
minimisation through use of compost makers, energy conservation
through energy saving installations and water conservation through
use of water saving devices.
The hospital also believes in creating
a conducive and healing environment for its patients. It sought
the help of the Nature Society of Singapore to create a Butterfly
Garden within its spacious 12-hectare ground to allow patients to
recuperate in an environment which is close to nature.

City Developments Limited (2004 winner -
Local Service Category)
City Developments Limited (CDL) is an international
property and hotel conglomerate involved in real estate development
and investment, hotel ownership and operations and provision of
hospitality solutions. In recognition of its dedication and success
as a Green Developer and advocate of a "Safe and Green"
culture, CDL was awarded the SEAA in the Local Services Category.
CDL was awarded based on its adoption
of a successful three-prong approach which includes developing quality
properties, managing cost effective and energy efficient buildings,
as well as influencing the community. By implementing environmentally
friendly policies, technologies and innovations, CDL is able to
minimise waste significantly, reduce noise and air pollution during
construction, as well as conserve energy and water. CDL also raised
environmental awareness among stakeholders in the community through
various projects such as Project Eco Office, first launched in 2002
for office workers, and Let's Live Green, an initiative for new
condo residents.
STMicroelectronics (2004 winner - Foreign
Manufacturing Category)
The first company to set up a wafer fabrication
plant in Singapore in 1984, STMicroelectronics is a leading player
in the semiconductor industry, having a strong presence in Singapore
with a staff strength of 7,400. ST's commitment to the environment
is a strong characteristic of its identity and a genuine source
of pride and motivation within the company. ST also believes that
environmental care makes good business sense and contributes to
the overall efficiency of the company.
The green initiatives in ST Singapore
include more than 40 energy conservation projects and recycling
almost 50% of its water usage through innovative water recycling
projects. ST also committed to social responsibility and has implemented
programs like the reforestation activity, adopt-a-school scheme
under the NEA, sponsorship of the book "growing at your doorsteps
and organizing open house events for industry sharing in environmental
programs.

Nanyang Polytechnic (2005
winner - Local Public Category)
Nanyang Polytechnic is a modern tertiary institution that offers
quality education in engineering, design, IT, business management,
health sciences and chemical & life sciences. The Polytechnic
moved to its current location at Ang Mo Kio in 1998, with the conception
of an integrated environment-friendly campus spanning 30.5 hectares
and playing host to some 14,500 students and 1,200 staff. With its
holistic approach towards environmental excellence, NYP scores on
its environmental performance. Through its resource conservation
and environmental awareness programmes, NYP consistently reduced
its electricity and water consumption over the years. These environmental
practices coupled with commitment from management, staff and students
ensured good practices and efforts are sustained and implemented
at all levels. NYPs ISO 14000 environmental policy and the
many Green Awards received also attest to its commitment towards
a Clean, Safe and Healthy Environment.

Schering-Plough Singapore (2005 Winner – Foreign Manufacturing Category)
With an investment of about US$1 billion, Schering-Plough (S-P) Singapore is the first large-scale American pharmaceutical company to establish manufacturing operations in Singapore. The state-of-art facility acts as a major flagship for Schering-Plough Corporation outside United States.
S-P Singapore strongly believes in the continual improvement of its environmental performance. Numerous green initiatives such as solvent minimization/ recovery, water and energy conservation projects have been implemented over the years, which resulted in savings of over US$2 million annually while minimizing the impacts to the environment.
As a corporate citizen, S-P Singapore takes pride and ownership in maintaining the biodiversity of its 1-km coastal shoreline. The company regularly organizes nature walks and eco-trips to enhance employee’s appreciation for the environment. It also hosted numerous visits for schools and other companies to learn about its environmental programs and pollution preventive techniques and participated in several industry network groups to share and exchange the best practices.

Sony Display Device (Singapore) (2005 Winner – Foreign Manufacturing Category)
Sony Display Device (Singapore) is the first company in Singapore and Southeast Asia to achieve ISO 14001 certification in 1996. From that foundation, the company has continue to strengthen its EMS over the years.
SDS has established programmes for continuous site and product environmental improvement. These include energy, water and paper resource conservation, waste recycling and green partnership. In Fiscal Year 2004, energy consumption reduced by 35%, purchased water consumption by 78%, waste generation by 43% and paper consumption by 26% compared to year 2000 level. We also achieved a waste recycling rate of 62%.
In addition, we set-up an environmental risk management system to ensure air, water and land pollution are properly controlled and managed. We also ensure our products meet environmental legislation of the countries we shipped to and purchase parts from approved Sony Green Partners.

Systems on Silicon Manufacturing (2006 Winner)
SSMC is a fairly new company, having started in 1999. Within the 6 years of operations, SSMC has managed to be the pioneer in NEWater implementation, VOC scrubber, HF treatment, elimination of Isopropyl Alcohol in wet bench cleaning, and several PFC (global warming) reduction projects.
SSMC's strength lies in its ability to continually minimise impact on the environment, through yearly environmental projects, with the targets
set out early in 2002-2005, and renewed in 2006 with a 4-year plan known as Ecovision 2006-2009. For water alone, the projects completed over the past 4 years have yielded savings of 418,744m3 of water per year, which is equivalent to 168 Olympic-size swimming pools. For energy, the projects have saved 10,578,199 kwh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to the toatal energy consumption of 2,248 4-room HDB flats per year. The factory recycles office paper, carton boxes, glass, plastic bottles and aluminum cans.
At the same time, the company works on the reduction of global warming gases through optimising processes and gas replacement. An annual reduction of 62,350 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent has been achieved from the perfluorinated carbons gases (PFC) reduction effort.

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (2006 Winner)
Hitachi GST management is committed to environmental conservation and protection as reflected in their goal to be a Super Eco-Factory and Office where adverse environmental impact is minimised through environmental programs such as energy conservation and
waste management. Strategic environmental plans, aggressive environmental objectives and targets are set to achieve the company goal. Through these various initiatives, Hitachi GST’s goal is to achieve an “Emission Neutral” styage by 2015.
HITACHI’s “Environment and CSR-Based MONOZUKURI Standards” have been formulated to apply environmental regulations and CSR requirements to a product throughout its entire life cycle. Hitachi has established clear environmental regulations for Hitachi product life process which include management policy, product planning and design, procurement and manufacturing, product use, recycling and distribution.
Various energy conservation measures such as reusing of packaging materials, VSD chillers, energy ballast and recycling have resulted in a decrease in the energy consumption used per product manufactured over the years (from 34 kWh/ drive in 2002 to 25kWh/ drive in 2005).

CapitaLand Limited (2007 / '08 Winner)
As the largest listed real estate company in Southeast Asia, CapitaLand's core business is in real estate, hospitality and real estate financial services.
Capitaland received the SEAA for its strong and effective environmental commitment which is reflected in its Green Buildings Guidelines, Environmental Management System and Green Committee. An innovative Environmental Tracking System was set up to track energy and water usage, waste generation and CO2 emissions of about 150 CapitaLand properties worldwide. In addition, CapitaLand’s properties are fitted with eco-friendly features such as rainwater harvesting systems, conservation of site trees, solar lighting and carbon monoxide monitoring system which in terms help CapitaLand to significantly cut down on its energy and water usage.
CapitaLand is also actively involved in educating the public on environmental issues. Targeting at children, CapitaLand incorporated green adventure trails in its 'Providing Educational Exposure for Kids' programme (PEEK) to educate them on the importance of environmental conservation. |
